Stonewall dinner brings HRCF's McFeeley to town

Stonewall Cleveland is hosting its second annual reception and dinner on Sunday, June 13, at the Stouffer Tower City Plaza Hotel on Public Square.

This major political event will feature keynote speaker Tim McFeeley, executive director of the Human Rights Campaign Fund (HRCF), who will review several national issues of concern to gay men and lesbians.

Local politicians, keenly aware of the impact gay voters have been having on the political agenda, will also be attending or sending representatives. At press time some of those planning to attend are Cleveland City Council members Dale Miller, Helen Smith, Raymond Pianka, James Rokakis and Council President Jay Westbrook. Likely attendees also include State Representative Barbara Pringle and U.S. Representative Eric Fingerhut. Cleveland Mayor Michael White, U.S. Representative Sherrod Brown, and U.S. Senators Howard Metzenbaum and John Glenn are all expected to send delegates, according to event organizer John Nolan.

McFeeley was appointed executive director of HRCF in 1989; since then, the Washington, D.C. organization has tripled in size to 60,000 members, becoming the nation's largest lesbian and gay political group.

A long time activist, McFeeley issued

the call for the first organizational meeting for the 1993 March on Washington, was arrested at the 1990 World AIDS Day protest at the White House, marched with Queer Nation at the 1991 Veteran's Day March on the Pentagon, and was the only gay man asked to speak at the 1992 March for Women's Lives, the largest pro-choice march in American history.

Before being active on a national level, McFeeley worked for Boston's gay community, drafting the city's Human Rights Ordinance which protects gays and lesbians from discrimination. He has served on the boards of the Bay Village Neighborhood Association, Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders, Boston Aging Concerns, and other civic groups. He was cofounder of the Boston Lesbian and Gay Political Alliance, serving as its first trea-

surer.

The Johnstown, New York, native was born in 1946 and graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School.
